Who are Budget? BUDGET is part of the Budget Group
of Companies, which was established in 1992 and has grown to be the one of
the UK's largest personal lines intermediaries, through a combination of organic
growth and a series of major strategic acquisitions.
The Budget Group of Companies began operating in the UK in 1992 when Budget
Insurance Company Limited was formed to repeat the success founder Douw Steyn
had enjoyed with South African based motor insurance company, Auto & General.
Selling car insurance as a privately owned insurance company
responsible for underwriting its own risks, BUDGET pioneered monthly policies,
and the paperless insurance environment.
Budget now have over a million customers, major contact centre operations
in Peterborough, Coventry, Sunderland and Cape Town, South Africa; 89 high
street retail outlets. Budget currently employ around 2000 people, and their
head office is based in Peterborough.
As an intermediary, budget is able to access a wide range of underwriters,
making it highly competitive in the marketplace.
Budget's core products are car insurance, home insurance, commercial vehicle/
van insurance and bike insurance. The company also offers a wide range of secondary
products, which include breakdown cover, personal loans, travel insurance and
life insurance.
Budget Retail Ltd operates in high streets throughout the UK. It is currently
strengthening the business through a programme of acquisitions of high street
brokers. It is also developing a portfolio of niche products – most recently
entering the taxi market.
